Welcome to

One Community
Project

The One Community Project is a year-long initiative to create a shared vision and joint comprehensive plan for Leadville and Lake County. Through this process, we’re shaping a roadmap for the future that celebrates our resilience, strengthens local opportunity, and preserves what makes our community special.

As our community grows and changes with more visitors, new challenges, and rising pressures, this project gives us the chance to shape future change on our own terms. Grounded in extensive community engagement, the plan will help align City and County policies, improve coordination, and address key priorities such as housing affordability, infrastructure maintenance, business vitality, and quality of life.

Voices of Leadville & Lake County

The YAK: Stories That Root Us was a live storytelling event hosted as part of the One Community Project. Through personal stories, poetry, and art, The YAK celebrated the voices and experiences that shape the Leadville and Lake County community. More than just a night of entertainment, The YAK served as a space to reflect on what connects us, what matters most, and how our shared stories can guide the future we build together.

Why Are We Doing This?

State statutes require municipalities to develop and maintain a comprehensive plan, which sets the foundation for local regulations and is critical for securing public funding and grants. The County and City are committed to creating a plan that is responsive to community input and feedback. This project will help us address important questions: How can we support local businesses? How do we make housing more affordable? How can we keep our neighborhoods safe and our roads and sidewalks in good shape? And most importantly—how can we make sure our community is a place where everyone feels they belong?

Our community is changing, with more visitors, growing economic pressures, and new challenges. The One Community Project is our chance to shape that change, ensuring that the character and values of Leadville and Lake County remain strong and vibrant.

Join Us in Shaping Our Future

We believe that Leadville and Lake County thrive when we work together. Throughout the last year, we’ve listened, learned, and envisioned what a prosperous and authentic future could look like for our community. Now, we’re turning those ideas into action.  We officially met our community engagement goal for the “Assess” phase of the project!

From January to April 2025, we asked community members what they love most about Leadville and Lake County, as well as their fears and hopes for the future. Thank YOU to the hundreds of locals who helped us collect more than 800 points of insight through values surveys, small group conversations, and one-on-one interviews.

We are now collecting feedback on draft values statements. These Values are meant to reflect the spirit of Leadville and Lake County. Help us reach our goal of collecting feedback from at least 200 community members by the end of June!

Let’s make this journey together—One Community, One Vision.
