“How Plans Shape Places,” a One Community Project blog series, helps us understand the practical uses of comprehensive plans. From city councilmembers to planning and zoning commissioners, Leadville and Lake County locals explain how they use the City and County’s comprehensive plan to make decisions that shape the look, feel, and function of our community places and spaces.
As a City Council member, I’m looking forward to having an updated comprehensive plan to guide decisions that will shape our community’s future. And because this plan is being created jointly by both Lake County and the City of Leadville, with a lot of community input, it will be especially valuable – reflecting a truly collaborative vision that helps ensure our efforts are aligned across City and County lines. Whether we’re evaluating new development proposals, prioritizing infrastructure investments, or considering zoning changes, the comprehensive plan will help ensure that our actions align with the values and goals identified by residents and stakeholders. It’s a great tool for keeping us on track and making consistent, thoughtful choices.
The comprehensive plan is also helpful when talking with constituents, developers, and regional partners. It helps ground our conversations in an agreed-upon framework, ensuring transparency and consistency in decision making. As we face new opportunities and challenges, having a clear, community-driven roadmap will help us to act proactively and collaboratively for the future of Leadville and Lake County.
